PARTITIONING A ROUTE - AUTO PARTITIONING
There are a couple a ways of partitioning / dividing up a route into days.
The easiest method is to use the auto partitioning tool which can be round in the Route Wizard screen.
Step 1 - Load a saved route or swap to the Route Wizard view on the route you are working on
Click on the Route Options tab.
You then have 2 options as to how you want to partition the route:
For both options is is possible to to ask Canal Planner to give preference to the location which it chooses as the overnight stopping point. Using the section entitled 'Given preference to mooring at' you can choose an combination of:
Often there will not be a location with the feature(s) that you have selected available at the optimum stopping point (e.g. the location closest to the hours you have specified), in which case Canal Planner will attempt to find a matching location before or after the matching location, by the amount of time specified in the 'if within x minutes of the optimum moor point' box. The default is 15, but you can alter this. The higher the number, the greater the chance that you will find a location matching your preferences.

When you have made a selection, the 'Partition Route' button will become enabled. Click 'Partition Route'.
Step 2 - Partitioned Route
Canal Planner will then partition the route according to the option chosen. In the example below the route was divided by hours, 4 on the first day, 7 for all following days and 3 on the last day. This gave a trip length of 11 days.
When looking at a divided route, you may see some days are highlighted in red. This indicates that on that day the planned time exceeds that which was specified when partitioning. This often happens when there is no location at exactly the time which was specified for the day hours, and therefore Canal Planner has had to find the nearest location either before or after. If the location after is the nearest Canal Planner will choose this location even if it means that the daily cruising time is greater than that specified. Hence it is highlighted in red in order to indicate this to the user.

Step 3 - Route Summary
The division of the route into days will be shown both on the Route Summary screen and the print out.
