I regret to inform all Canal Planner users that Canal Planner has been withdrawn from sale. There are many reasons for this, but the main reasons are due to the economic down torn and my relocation to another country. Canal Planner has been failing to meet the monthly outgoings with sales for some time now and as such I have eventually come to the tough decision to close down Canal Planner. I would like to thank all the people who have supported Canal Planner over the years. I am proud to have been part of this software which grew from a small application my father wrote for his own use, to the software which it became with the many versions which have subsequently been released.
For existing users of Canal Planner nothing significant will change. I will naturally maintain the server which is required for activation. I will also provide support for the system on Windows XP through to Windows 7, but I cannot promide support for future releases of Windows. What will change however is the method of that support. As I am now resident in Australia, I am unable to provide telephone support. I will however provide support via email. Most of the existing Canal Planner email addresses get heavily spammed so support will now be provided at the following email address: canalplannersupport@canalplanner.com

Due to the expiration of a particular domain name the Google Maps functionality within Canal Planner is currently not working. We are working to rectify this and full service will be resumed as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Apologies to all users that there have been no significant updates over the last 8 months or so. As yet we have been unable to collect any new data about the UK waterways and as such have had no need to provide any updates. As soon as we receive information which needs to be updated in Canal Planner, rest assured that we will be sending out updates. Stoppages information from British Waterways have now been automated into the system and you will receive these via the message feature which you can find on the Quick Start Menu and Help | Message option from the Menu Bar.

A few people have been asking how they can upgrade their Canal Planner from version 7.04 and earlier to the more recent 7.07 release. Due to the changes we made to the activation process in v7.05 it has not been possible to provide this upgrade via the Update Wizard feature within Canal Planner. The only way to upgrade is to download the new version in its entirity. Thus far I have been reluctant to provide the details of how to do this due to a number of file download problems which people have encountered when using the Trial version, however as there seems to be a number of people who wish to upgrade I am providing the instructions how to do this. We have been working hard over the last few months in order to produce a Trial Version of Canal Planner. We have now completed this and it is available to download or order on CD. In addition we will be distributing 4000 copies at the Crick Boat Show and will also be working closely with Canals & Rivers magazine to distribute these with each copy of their magazine - This will be in one of their Summer 08 editions. If you want to try Canal Planner for FREE now, you can download it here. Not only have we produced a trial version, but we have also enhanced the functionality and added new features to Canal Planner. Users of Canal Planner 7.00 to 7.04 will be sent new CDs as it is not possible to upgrade from 7.04 and less to 7.05 (the new release). This is because we have improved the activation process but this enhancement resulted in a lack of upgrade path. If you would prefer to download 7.05, you should contact Canal Planner with your existing License Codes and we will issue new ones.

ACTIVATION / UPDATE Server - As you may have noticed over the last couple of months, update wizard may not have always managed to connect to our server, or if activating you may have received an error message saying that you don't have an internet connection (even if you do). This has been caused by our old hosting company suddenly blocking the communication ports which we use within Canal Planner for activation/updates/google maps. We managed to put in a temporary solution which has not been particularly reliable. I am however please to say that we have now managed to get the activation server located within a reliable hosting environment with the required communications ports open. IMPORTANT: In order to transition between the old and new solutions, the activation /update server will be unavailable on the 22nd January. Normal service will resume from 23rd January.

To all Canal Planner 7 Users - Here at Canal Planner we would like to apologise for the recent lack of communication. Over the last few months we have been working on an update to resolve a problem with a few people reported with Routing issues. Whilst this wont obviously have affected the majority of users, it was something which we wanted to ensure was fixed. The updates are now ready and we will be releasing them shortly. For users of v7.00 and v7.01 we are afraid to report that the download is approx 70MB. For v7.02 and v7.03 users the download is approx 6MB. You will notice the updates available in Update wizard within the next week.

FREE UPGRADES - For those people awaiting free upgrades, your copies of Canal Planner version 7 will be being sent out during the week starting 28th June. Sorry for the delay! The reason for the delay is that we wanted to send out the second release of v7 which fixes a number of bugs and includes additional functionality.

We will shortly be releasing a new look website which is desgined with our new branding and colour scheme as the main theme. Initially this will have the same content on it as this site, but we will be expanding this to include a tour of Canal Planner, enhanced support and FAQs section and much more over the coming months.

The first update for Canal Planner will be made available next week. We are currently testing the changes and once we are happy with them will be sending the changes down to you all by the Update Wizard. Some of the changes included are:
* View pictures on a per waterway basis
* A-to-B via location(s) option
* A-to-B automatically plan return/reverse journey option
* Integrated alerts in Canal Planner to automatically check for updates
* New printing options for double spacing and print without map
* Various other small changes and fixes to the application and data

I am pleased to report that service has resumed as normal. Our CD copier has been fixed and we now have stock and are able to distribute orders as usual.

As if the wind and rain at the Crick Boat Show wasn't enough to put a dampener on things, I am sorry to report that we have had a hardware failure with our disk copying equipment. We are expecting a replacement part early next week. We will be dispatching any orders received as soon as the new hardware is received.
